Sweat Proof Your Beauty Routine | Michelle Phillips Beauty
High temperatures and humidity outside can make us feel like our hair and makeup is melting down. As a celebrity makeup artist, it has been my job to keep my clients looking picture perfect under the hot lights on TV and movie sets. The goal is to look polished and fresh rather than like you are having a makeup meltdown!
Here are a few ideas to keep in mind when it comes to your beauty routine:
Prep and Prime
First make sure you use a good moisturizer before you apply anything else. Most people think you should skip your moisturizer because it is hot outside. That is absolutely not true! Your skin still needs hydration. I like to use an oil free moisturizer such as La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat
Makeup application, especially in the summer months, should start with a makeup primer –this will help keep your favorite foundation in place. I like to use Stila One Step Illuminating Primer because it's oil free, evens out skin tone, reduces appearance of pores and brightens!
Foundation
Opt for long-wear makeup formulas that can withstand the heat or a tinted moisturizer like Stila Stay All Day lightweight, high-definition, buildable coverage, oil-free, matte foundation. Hidden inside the cap is a creamy, full-coverage refillable concealer that blends seamlessly to instantly neutralize under-eye circles and hide skin imperfections. It looks and feels natural on the skin!
Blotting Powder
You never know when you need to touch up your shiny face, so be sure to carry oil blotting powder or blotting papers with you. Regular powders can look caky and heavy by end of the day. My go-to is MAC Blot. It is lightweight, has minimal color and erases shine in seconds!
Eyeshadow should be light- avoid dark colors.
The pigment in eyeshadow gets darker as your skin gets shiny. Use waterproof eyeliner, mascara, and eye brow products. There are so many waterproof eye products on the market that last hours. My favorite liner is Urban Decay 24/7. It is waterproof and doesn't budge until you wash it off. My new fave for eyeshadow is the Stila Shimmer and Glow! Easy to apply stays all day!
There's nothing worse than your brow color fading throughout the day. You could end up with no brows or worse...looking like Groucho Marx! Looking for long lasting brow color? Try Velvet 3D Brow Glide. The formula combines liquid pomade, thickening gel, styling wax, and conditioner. It's waterproof and designed to stay on until you decide to take it off.
Blush-lighten up and brighten up!
Again, dark colors will get increasingly darker as skin gets oily or shiny. My favorite summer color is Nars Orgasm blush. Ask any makeup artist and they will tell you this is among their faves.
Lips- Lipstick can feel gross in the Summer heat.
I like to line and fill in lips with a waterproof lip liner. My fave? Urban Decay and then use any gloss or lip balm rather than heavy lipstick color. Or if you prefer lipstick try a lip stain.
