Are you struggling with how you look and feel?

Have you been struggling with how you look and feel as you’re getting a little older?

I know I have! After turning 50 this year, I’ve found that all of the sudden I began noticing signs of aging- all over my body! Most importantly, I wasn’t feeling as energetic, focused, and I began to put on weight easily and not able to easily get it off! To top it off, my sleep patterns were all over the place.

So, I decided to be a lot more pro-active in taking good care of myself. Not only to look good but to FEEL good. I am all about aging gracefully- but that doesn’t mean we can’t partake in a few things to help slow down the acceleration of the aging process!

This is what I have chosen to do for myself:

Use food as medicine for my body

I have always eaten healthy; however, I am now thinking of food as medicine for my body rather than watching what I eat and count calories. What a difference! I feel better and have lost weight.

Exercise- not to lose weight…to build strength, improve my mood, and sleep better

I have been working out for several years now- but never consistently because I didn’t like to work out. Now, I am exercising every day. I either take a FUN class, lift some weights, or take a long walk. As long as I have done something each day, I feel as if I am taking care of myself. By doing so, I feel I am in a much better mood, sleep much better, and enjoy exercise. Sounds crazy, I know.

Preventative Health vs. the alternative

After losing my father this year, I decided to be more pro-active in making sure I stay healthy. By the end of the year, I will have had my mammogram, colonoscopy, bone density test, and BRCA testing (all recommended by my doctor).

Let go of negativity

I am making a conscious effort to rid my mind of negative thought- not as easy as it sounds. In addition, I am separating myself from negative people! We have a choice of whether or not we spend time with people who are negative. I chose not to, as it just drains me and brings me down.

Focus on the positive

When I wake up each morning, I lay in bed for a few minutes and count all of my blessings- I do the same again at night before I fall asleep. I have decided that focusing on what’s right about my life rather than what is wrong or what could go wrong is only going to attract more of what I don’t want.

“ME” time

I schedule “me time” to read, walk the beach, get a massage, nails done, or lunch with girlfriends. The ultimate “me time” is spending time with my kids (when they can fit me into their busy schedules). Now that they are all grown up and living their own lives, I miss them terribly. When I spend time with my kids -my heart is full!

PLAY!

Speaking of gratitude and heart being FULL! I am married to an incredible man who brings me such joy every day. We have made it a top priority to take time out to PLAY! Often. My husband and I have a pact to turn off work by 6pm. We spend our evenings cooking together trying new gourmet (healthy) recipes, talk, binge watch our favorite TV show on Netflix, take walks or go out with friends. We also like to get out at least once a week, just the two of us, and have some fun.

You are probably wondering why I am telling you all of this. Well, there are a couple reasons;

First of all, I hope it inspires you to live your life to the fullest and to take care of yourself.

In addition to that, I have changed my direction a little bit regarding the type of information I will be sharing with you each week. My show, The Beauty Investigator will continue to arrive in your inbox, however only once a month. The other few weeks of each month, I will be sharing tips and ideas to help you look and feel your best in the areas of health and beauty!

I will be sharing beauty tips and tutorials, health stories, recipes, fun work out ideas, and will be reviewing and sharing products that I come across that may be of interest to ladies our age.

Just because we are getting older, doesn’t mean that we have to throw in the towel. There are so many ways we can improve our health and reverse the aging process to look and feel more youthful. Trust me, I am doing it! I am excited to share with you how…sometimes what I am doing works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

It all comes down to this…sharing. We learn from and inspire each other by doing so!

I hope you will share with me too! Please email me your ideas, questions, challenges, triumphs. I’d love to know if there is a topic you need help with that I can provide answers to. If something is working for you, please let me know. If you allow, I will share with the Michelle Phillips Beauty community!

Here’s to looking and feeling beautiful at any age!

Love and hugs!

Michelle
